Killeen residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste Saturday, February 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Killeen Special Events Center, 3601 S. WS Young Drive. The event is free and open to Killeen residents only.

 

Acceptable materials include petroleum products, corrosives, fertilizers, cleaners, pesticides, paint, automotive liquids and fluorescent lamps. A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable chemicals is available at www.killeentexas.gov/hhw. Batteries and electronics will be accepted as will passenger car and light truck tires at a minimum charge of $2.00 per tire.

 

Prohibited materials include ammunition, explosives, medical waste, radioactive material, compressed glass cylinders and commercial tires. These items will not be accepted.

 

Residents should carefully load hazardous waste into their vehicles securing any fragile or awkward containers. Waste should be in original containers with original labels if possible. Leaking containers should be placed in a spill-proof container or bag.

 

Note: this collection is for city of Killeen residents only, and proof of current address will be necessary.  No materials will be accepted from business, industry or agricultural operations.
