Additional Information

The First Presbyterian Church of Temple, Texas has committed to helping bring clean, potable water to communities in rural Nicaragua to help address their desire to improve the health and wellbeing of their community and neighboring areas. We are working in partnership with Living Waters for the World, which trains and equips mission teams to share the gift of sustainable clean water.
Last March, we visited several communities in need, and met with community leaders to develop a partnership. While the community is building their resources to prepare for the installation of a system, and a plan for long term maintenance, our mission team is working to raise funds for the purchase of needed equipment for the system. Our plan is to send a team back to Nicaragua in the spring of 2015 to oversee the installation of the system, train local partners in the running and maintenance of the
system, and train local educators and health workers in good sanitation and hygiene practices to improve the health of their community.
As part of our fund-raising efforts, we are hosting a 5K Fun Run and 2K Walk in Miller Park on October 4, 2014. In Nicaragua, as in many communities around the world, it is common for women and children to walk over 5K daily to obtain water to meet their needs, and even then, the water is not safe for drinking or cooking. This event will include a water festival, food, and games, and some educational activities
relating to Clean Water and its importance to health and quality of life.
Bring the family for games, food and fun and learn about the need for clean water around the world.
