Additional Information

In conjunction with its traveling exhibition on Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Bell County Museum will celebrate Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) on Saturday, November 1, from noon until 4 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, and will feature lots of craft activities, fun and refreshments.

Day of the Dead is a popular Mexican holiday in which people gather to pray for and remember their family members who have died.

During the celebrations, private altars, or ofrendas, are built to honor the deceased and are decorated with marigolds, sugar skulls, and favorite foods and drinks of the deceased.

For the November 1st event at the museum, visitors can view an ofrenda honoring Abraham Lincoln, and make sugar skulls and jewelry using skull beads, milagros and hemp. They will also make paper flowers, skeleton masks, and will have an opportunity to win tickets to see the movie, “The Book of Life,” a new release about Day of the Dead. The tickets are courtesy of the Grand Avenue Theater.
