Some customers of Belton’s Dog Ridge Water Supply Corporation have been without service since Wednesday night, and the company was working to repair a massive leak in a water main Friday afternoon.

We spoke with a Dog Ridge employee shortly before 5 PM Friday who told us the company had called in experts with Cla-Valv and L&D Leak Detection to help determine the cause of the system malfunction that halted service to some 1,400 customers.

It was determined that two broken valves needed repairing, and that there was a massive leak in a section of a water main near U.S. Highway 190, west of George Wilson Road.

The valve repairs had been completed when we spoke with the employee, but crews were still working on the main. The employee said he hoped service might be restored Friday evening.

The employee we spoke with said reports of a leak at one of the company's water towers were false.

Customers affected by the outage were invited to visit the company’s office at 7480 FM 2410 in Belton to pick up a case of bottled drinking water. The office closes at 7PM on Friday, but customers can also stop by Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM. (While supplies last, according to Dog Ridge’s website.)

According to KWTX-TV, the outage affects around 1,400 customers north of U.S. 190 between Paddy Hamilton Road to the west and Loop 121 to the east.

The company’s website shows a boil water notice issued for all customers on July 28 due to loss of pressure.
