Laurel Canyon. Los Angeles, California.  The very late sixties. Everything sensitive and songwritery came from this scene, just above Hollywood. They were all cooking up there in the hills. From all over the country, they'd come armed with their acoustic guitars and thier sensitive sensitive souls. From Wiki, "Laurel Canyon found itself a nexus of counterculture activity and attitudes in the 1960s, becoming famous as home to many of L.A.'s rock musicians, such as Frank Zappa; Jim Morrison of The Doors; The Byrds; Buffalo Springfield; and Love. Joni Mitchell, living in the home in the Canyon that was immortalized in the song, "Our House", written by her then-lover Graham Nash, would use the area and its denizens as inspiration for her third album, Ladies of the Canyon. Which brings us to this pale pale white lady, armed with a mordant wit, straw colored hair and huge eatin-an-apple-through-a-fence teeth. She made Carole King look like a big sweaty truck driver. Taken away from their time, however, her songs truly stand up on their own. They even survived being trodden upon by the likes of The Counting Crows. Don't get me started on The Counting Crows. I mean, the 90's were supposed to be about Nirvana and change and rock and roll, and we wound up with boys bands and Counting Crows' Sideshow Bob warbling his way through "Round Here".

Where was I? Oh yeah. Joni Mitchell.  She describes herself as a "painter derailed by circumstance" Some called her "the most important and influential female recording artist of the late 20th century." Yeah, and also this song is two minutes of cool lyrics and darn peppy guitar and it's your-
