As previously noted here, on The Poor Excuse For A Morning Show, we try to keep things uptempo, moving and peppy, ya know, cos really, who wants to wake up to six minutes of boring when you can wake up to something that GETS YOUR MAGIC MORNING MOVING! However, there are times when you need a slow jam...something that fires off a warm memory, that bathes you in the slow tide of nostalgia. That's why, here on the K-101.7 Song Of The Day, this is the week of the SLOW JAM!

BOOM BAP! BOOM BLAP BOOM BLAP!

It was the sound of the eighties, those heavily gated, reverbed out the yazoo drums. And Phil Collin was the master of the mid song drum fill explosion. Pick any song, there they were. It happened because he was recording a drum track for Peter Gabriel, and Peter took all his cymbals away, leaving him with a rudimentary kit to hit as hard as he could to make up for the loss of splashiness. And Phil looovvved it.

As did Mike Tyson.

Phil used this drum sound on everything, from this:

to this, in which one critic said the former singer from ABBA is fighting for her life under an unstoppable avalanche of SLAMMING DRUMS:

Which leads us to today's slow jam, from the movie where James Woods played skeevy, that one lady from the Thornbirds played hawt-cha and the Big Lewboski dude was tan, hunky and sweated a lot. All while Phil Collins pleaded his guts out amidst weeping pianos, sad neon waterfalls and BY GOD SLAMMING ALMIGHTY CRASHING COLOSSAL DRUMS.

And it's your K-101.7 SONG OF THE DAY!

P.S: Phil Collins, HE LOVES THE ALAMO!
