Dave Spins: Kansas!
Listen. I'm not the biggest Kansas fan in the world, but gosh darn if they didn't have some kicking album covers. And that seems to be the focus this week, killer album covers, so let's go with a Kansas tune for today's K-101.7 Song Of The Day. No, really.
I mean right from the start, Kansas laid down the gauntlet for killer album cover art with this one, depicting John Brown and his raidin' friends:
As a wide-eyed kid, you didn't know what any of this meant, you just knew it was freaking cool and it belonged on the side of your older brother's Goodtimes van. Really if your band looked like this:
-wouldn't you make sure your artwork was a killer picture of anything but you? Who cares if I never wanna hear "Dust In The Wind" again, just look at this album artwork:
You couldn't name a single band member, but big deal when you could spend hours holding that giant gate-folded record album cover in your hand as the midwest classic rock maybe Jesus rock maybe not washed around you.
I mean, Indians in horned space helmets? WHY NOT?
And then, on their greatest hits album, found a way to combine them all.
So all hail whoever it was in Kansas, maybe that one guy, with the beard, who approved of all this, some of the most kick ass album artwork the 1970's had ever known!
And, oh yeah, here is your K-101.7 Song Of The Day!
