Kay, kids, this came out in 1987, and that makes it just about 28 years old. Wrap your brain around that for a second. Another fun fact, the record this comes from, KICK, was the first record I ever hiked out of the program director's office. For those not in the know, back in the day, sneaking records out of the p.d.'s office was a time honored traditional bit of radio thievery. Point of fact, I lied. The first record I snitched out of the bosses office was, actually this:

Later I found out Rick is the same age as me. He's still around. The lead singer of INXS, well, not so much. Back in 1988, however, the band members were kings of everything. The album KICK was spinning off single after single, they were all over the radio, and I played the mess out of those songs during my very first job in radio, rocking your box from midnight to six, two nights a week. Oddly enough, given the name of the album concerned, that station's name was KIXS.

Yeah, I got fired there, but that's another story.

This a great song. Sweeping, you might say. Grand, even. According to the song's wiki entry, "In the U.S. it reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, and, after his death in 1997, lead singer Michael Hutchence's coffin was carried out of St. Andrews Cathedral by the remaining members of INXS and younger brother Rhett, as "Never Tear Us Apart" was played in the background. This song is now thought of by many original INXS fans as Hutchence's anthem.:
