Temple police have confirmed that a 4-year-old girl who was hit by a boat and became caught in the propellers Friday night at Temple Lake Park has passed away, and the driver of the boat has been arrested.

Temple PD public information officer Shawana Neely confirmed in a media release Saturday that Katlyn Oliver succumbed to her injuries around 7:45 PM Friday. She was pronounced dead at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Oliver's 37-year-old father lost both legs as he attempted to save the girl. He is still listed in serious condition at Scott & White, Neely said.

Police have arrested 43-year-old Jason Stuart Bernal of Killeen. Bell County Jail records indicate that he was booked at 11:07 PM Friday. He's been charged with a third degree felony, but jail records did not specify the charges Saturday afternoon, nor was any bond information available.

Rick Smith of Marine Outlet shared the photos below and told KTEM that police requested assistance bringing Bernal's 50-foot Gibson boat ashore. He said police are treating the area where the collision occurred as a crime scene, and that the boat may be impounded.

Neely said the collision remained under investigation Saturday afternoon.
