Temple police are warning citizens to be careful and vigilant after several attempted car burglaries early Wednesday morning - one of which involved gunfire.

Officers were called to the 3200 block of Rosewood Drive shortly after 3 a.m. after a resident reported seeing a man he didn't know in his vehicle. The caller said the man fled east on foot after he shouted at him, and at one point turned and fired a handgun. The suspect reportedly entered a dark sedan - possibly a Chevrolet Impala. Officers recovered a shell casing at the scene.

Earlier in the evening (around 12:37 a.m.), police were called to the 5000 block of 205 Loop after reports of three black males in dark clothes walking along the street and trying door handles. They were reportedly being closely followed by a dark sedan that occasionally flashed its lights. Police discovered that several cars along the street were entered without the owners' permission, but no reports were filed by residents.

At 1:16 a.m., officers responded to a report of two black males in white shirts and dark shorts behaving suspiciously in the parking lot of the Wildflower Villas at 5227 West Adams. A witness sitting on a balcony heard a car alarm, then observed the men attempting to enter vehicles. He shouted that he was going to call police and the men fled east on foot.

Police are advising citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Also, valuables should not be kept in cars, or should be hidden from plain sight. If you do observe suspicious activity, do not put yourself in harm's way. Observe from a safe distance and try to remember as many details as possible when you call police.

Anyone with information about Wednesday' morning's incidents is asked to call the Temple Police Department at 254-298-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-TIPS (Local (254) 526-TIPS).
