Before the turkey sends you off to the land of sweet dreams, you might want to watch some TV.

If you don't want to sleep, then watch football with people who are fans of either Dallas or Detroit, you know, if you can find any. But if you want to make it a family thing, then pick one these classic movies to drift off to dreamland with.

  • Miracle on 34th Street

    1947 Version

Best to watch this before you begin crossing checking other shoppers trying to get a discount. It's like eating before going to shop for groceries. Less chance of picking up garbage food that you'll regret later. With this movie you'll have the true meaning of Christmas in the back of your mind when it counts.

  • The Big Chill

    1983

I know, it sounds weird to watch this on Thanksgiving, but the movie does include a big dinner. Plus, it gives you chance to be thankful that you're not gathering with friends because of a funeral. Plus you can be thankful that you're not Jeff Goldblum.

  • Dutch

    Yes, that Dutch

I don't care what you say, this was a good movie. It dished out some good lessons. Don't be a brat. Respect others. Be thankful for what you have, not what you don't. And don't let Ed O'Neill punch you while he's wearing a ring.

  • Grumpy Old Men

    Burgess Merideth Classic

This is an amazing movie. Just simply funny. There ain't no moral, I just like it. Ann Margaret always looks good. Plus, better them then me than when it comes to ice fishing.

"It looks like he's taking the log to the beaver."

  • Planes, Trains, & Automobiles

    The Best

If you can laugh, cry, and laugh again during a movie, that movie is called good. With Planes, Trains, And Automobiles, it's great. Just looking at the trailer makes me miss John Candy. I can't think of a better way to end Thanksgiving.
