Before it was George Castanza's answering machine message, it was a hit song on the radio, and on my cassette player.

Big fan of TV. Big surprise I know. One of my favorites was the “Greatest American Hero”. For some reason I could relate to a super hero who couldn’t control his powers because he lost the instructions to the super suit.

How could you not like it with such a great premise? Plus, each week you got to hear one of the best theme songs ever. Joey Scarbury and the “Theme to Greatest American Hero” or, “Believe it or Not”.

This one hit the cassette the first time I watched the show. I also could relate because the lead actor had blond curly hair, and thanks to an unfortunate hair mistake, so did I.

It peaked at number 2 in 1981, and the only reason it didn’t go to number one was because of some stupid suicide pact song from Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie. Feel free to sing along, everyone knows the words.
