The school bell is ringing! Time to dance!  It never seems right somehow, the end of summer and the beginning of school here in Texas. It's still bloody hot and more often than not in the early going, the sun is still up when bed time rolls around. It all goes so quick, the summer, and before you know it it's six o'clock on the Sunday before the first school day, and that evil Sixty Minutes pocket watch appears on your parent's t.v., ticking away the last few precious moments of your summer.

So, for with, a bunch of my favorite school songs, for your instant edification.

Cheech And Chong in the seventies dropped "Earache My Eye" a bit about a dad rousting his son out of bed, the son then putting on a big dumb rock song to start his day.  I present to you a band called Scatterbrain, covering the tune in the early 90's. Dig it in all it's glorious dunderheadness.

Told you that was gonna be fun.

Jumping back to the fifties, we find an artist and a song that I would put on a flag next to Old Glory. This song is as timeless as it was nearly sixty years ago. As American as pictures of apple pie and race cars. *sigh* A classic.

And now...

Skipping to the 80's and the era of hair bands, we find second string AquaNet abusers Britney Fox waxing poetic about Girlschool, and shoving each and every cliche they could reach into 4:39 of glorious duh. And, mind you, I'm putting this in place of "Hot For Teacher" and "Catholic Schoolgirls Rule" by the Chili Peppers.

Wow. Goodbye, eighties. Hello, sixties.

Sonny Boy Williamson I recorded "Good Morning, School Girl" in 1937, and then it was re-cut by a whole host of artists great, middle and what th? For our purposes, we're gonna scoot back to the British Invasion and go with the Yardbirds version, featuring one Eric Clapton on the guitar.

Eric Clapton left four months before this was released and thus is name isn't anywhere in the credits.

And, at the last, my favorite song about school, we find the Ramones and the love theme for the movie that blows up the high school at the end, it's "Rock And Roll High School."

Class dismissed.
