The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating after one of its agents was found dead on Fort Hood Sunday night.

The CID said in a media release Tuesday evening that Staff Sgt. Steven K. Hines' body was discovered Sunday at approximately 10:00 PM, about 50 yards behind building 2201.

CID investigators said they do not suspect foul play at this time, but aren't ruling it out as they continue examining evidence. Special agents from outside of Fort Hood have been assigned the case.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our agents,” said Maj. Gen. Mark S. Inch, the provost marshal general of the Army and commanding general of CID. “The Criminal Investigation Command is a very small and close knit organization. Losing one of our own deeply affects us all. We will do everything in our power to support the Hines family during this very difficult time.”

Sgt. Hines was a special agent assigned to the 11th MP Bn (CID) on Fort Hood. He joined the Army in July, 2007.

Sgt. Hines' awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, and the Army Driver Badge.
