For years I heard about the renaissance fair outside of Houston. Now I find there's another one near Dallas, the name of which will be very familiar.

This year's Scarborough Renaissance Festival is this weekend, April 8 through May 29, Saturdays & Sundays as well as Memorial Day. Hours are 10:00 am – 7:00 PM. It's located at 2511 FM 66 off the I-35E in Waxahachie. That's about ninety minutes north of Temple.

Admission is $28 for adults, $13 for kids 5-12. Children 4 & under are always free. $4 off at the gate for active members of the military.

Among the highlights...

  • full combat jousting
  • birds of prey
  • a human chess match, which sounds like something out of Patrick McGoohan and The Prisoner.
  • Mermaid Lagoon (le rawr)
  • Not Seals and Crofts...Arts and crafts including leather works, glass sculpting, weaving. Ye olde stuff.

Oh, and if you run into Sir Robin, say hi for us!
